WHERE
Glenhope is privately owned and operated by our loyal farming clients Simon and Melissa Turner. Their property is 650ha effective and is run as a high performing commercial sheep and beef breeding and finishing operation, with a small Romney ram stud providing diversity to farm policies.
Glenhope is located one hour northwest of Hastings and is part of the friendly and active farming community of Puketitiri. Its location provides a summer safe farming operation with a good mix of flat, rolling hill to steeper country. There is plenty of dog work available and the farm has well-established infrastructure in place allowing for good working conditions.
Simon and Melissa take pride in developing their employees and they ideally encourage a two-year term in this Experienced Shepherd role. This will be the eighth time Rural Directions have placed into this role with all appointees reporting very positive experiences and career development.
WHAT
As the Experienced Shepherd your focus will be on stock and pasture management, animal health and recording. Glenhope have a small but efficient team and at times you will be required to work on your own and take responsibility for your tasks i.e. running the shearing shed. To successfully carry out stock work you will need a team of 4-6 well controlled working dogs. In the quieter periods on-farm you will spend the time completing some general R & M work as required. At times you will be required to organise and work with casual staff members. RTs are used for on-farm communication.

WHO
Our client is looking for an Experienced Shepherd who has at least two years previous sheep and beef experience and the drive and motivation to succeed in their career. The below are also key to success in this role:
- Good stockmanship & animal health skills.
- A team of 4-6 well controlled working dogs.
- Good recording and record keeping skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good communication skills.
- Organisational and time management skills.
