General Hand - Hallmark Angus - Kokopuru Station

WHERE

Tweedie Pastoral Ltd is a family-owned farming business located 1 hour north of Napier between the two small farming settlements of Tutira and Putorino. These are active rural communities encouraging involvement in several sporting activities including squash, badminton and touch rugby in the summer.

Kokopuru Station, is 1000ha of medium to steep pumice hill country set within a summer safe location. As part of this sheep and beef farming operation, they are standing 500 stud angus cows and 3000 terminal ewes, with all lambs finished. It is an intensive farming business that is performing to a high level.

Kokopuru Station is the home of the Hallmark Angus cattle stud. There is a lot of pride and passion within this farming operation, and the owners are building a reputation for producing strong, low fuss performance cattle. The stud currently has two on farm bull sales annually being a yearling bull sale in September and the 2-year bull sale in June. As of March 2025, there will be another annual on farm sale, with females being sold.

WHAT

As the General Hand at Kokopuru Station, you will have responsibilities for a broad range of tasks, offering you a variety of work. Ideally, you will have a practical mind, a can-do attitude and bring problem solving skills to the business. Your range of skills will need to cover fencing, mainly R&M but also some new fencing; this will also cover electrics. Any water reticulation experience would also be beneficial as, they are redoing some of their water systems.

You will be driving a modern tractor to complete general machinery tasks, this will include operating the post rammer and feedout wagon. When feeding out it will be required that you observe the stock and are able to report back any animal health issues or non-performing stock. At times, when required, there will be stock work with both the cattle and sheep, therefore some experience but not essential with yard work would be beneficial. A working dog will not be required.

Our client is looking for a General Hand with strong attention to detail and tidy work habits. Along with great problem-solving skills the below are also key to success in this role:

  • High level of fencing skills – mainly R&M.Ability to operate machinery – general work.
  • Some experience with stock water would be beneficial.
  • Confident with stock handling, both cattle and sheep.
  • Current NZ driver’s licence.
  • Physically fit and capable of hands-on work.
